This week we welcomed four new long-term volunteers: Lem and Alta from Willow Street, PA, Karen from Corvallis, OR, and Wendy from Canby, OR, while sadly bidding farewell to Mike, Leonard, and Lorena. Jerry Grosh visited us for a few days while taking care of business at many of the Gulf Coast projects.
Pequea Bretheren in Christ Church of Lancaster, PA sent a group of 16 willing volunteers, who were joined by two people from West Monroe, LA, as well as one from Paulina, LA. At the beginning of the week, the weather was hot and humid, in the middle of the week a north wind began to blow across the lake, greatly reducing the temperature, so that we had to dig out our warm jackets.
Much progress was made at the houses of four clients:
At Ms. Marie G.’s home, the volunteers hung doors, installed and painted interior trim, installed kitchen cabinets, and mudded closets.
A protective surround was built for Ms. Marie T.’s air conditioner unit.
At Ms. Juanita’s home, the ceramic tile was sealed, doors and interior trim were installed and painted, and the kitchen cabinets and countertops were installed.
The kitchen countertop and sink were installed, as well as a pedestal sink and vanity in the bathrooms of Ms. Agnes’s house.
Blessings from Jim and Marie, Lem and Alta, Peter, Walter, Graham, Karen, and Wendy.
MDS volunteers are known for repairing and rebuilding homes damaged by disasters. But it takes more than construction skills to serve with MDS. During the time that you serve as a volunteer, you will learn that MDS also restores lives.
Your contribution will help to connect volunteers with disaster survivors who need assistance on their path to recovery. MDS depends on the support of people who believe that disaster response is an important part of helping those who are in need.
