Weekly Report from Chickasaw

This week our volunteers consisted of a group of seven from Mitchell, MB and a couple from IL. Thanks for all you hard work, God bless you all for your service.

This last week at the MDS Chickasaw site saw the casing and baseboard installed at Mr. Willie’s home, along with paint and trim touch ups. I don't think that two weeks ago Mr. Willie thought there would be so much progress before the end of March. He is very thankful for all the hard work and is ready to move in.

Ken and Jake tackled a last minute drywall repair and bath plumbing job this week for Mr. Willie. Thanks for all your contributions in getting this project started and finished in just three days. Mrs. Willie is extremely thankful!

There was still time to do some interior and exterior trim painting at Miss Jacqueline’s home. This has been amazing to see how much this has lifted the spirits of Miss Jacqueline, a lady who has seen so much loss in recent months.

With Miss Venia's new home just needing a couple of last minute things done on it we were ready for the home dedication on Thursday. Following some words of welcome from Harv and the presentation of a wall hanging from the MDS sister link program, Verla Hass gave Miss Venia a fresh loaf of homemade bread. Rob and Peggy, our short-term couple presented Miss Venia with a beautiful handmade comforter sent from their home church in Illinois, Lombard Mennonite. Pastor Randy from Parkway Baptist had the blessing followed by the house tours.

Another new home dedication! With many of Mr. Thomas's friends and family in attendance there were again presentations of bread, a wall hanging, as well a comforter from Peggy and Robs church. Thanks to all who attended!

Wednesday evening at Parkway Baptist was our final evening supper and fellowship time with our wonderful church family. After a few words and a presentation by Harv it was time to say our final farewells to a church body that has been so kind and welcoming to MDS. We can't say thank you enough for all the support we have received from Pastor Randy, Parkway Baptist, and the people of Houston, MS. May the Lord richly bless you all for your kindness.

Volunteer

MDS volunteers are known for repairing and rebuilding homes damaged by disasters. But it takes more than construction skills to serve with MDS. During the time that you serve as a volunteer, you will learn that MDS also restores lives.

Donate

Your contribution will help to connect volunteers with disaster survivors who need assistance on their path to recovery. MDS depends on the support of people who believe that disaster response is an important part of helping those who are in need.
