Responding Rebuilding Restoring

Livingston, Texas

Disaster Description
Livingston , Texas is 75 miles north east of Houston . This area was hit by hurricane Rita in 2005. Even though it is 100 miles inland from the Gulf by Lake Livingston it received severe damage from high winds.

This area may not show many visible signs of the storm any more however many lives have been changed forever. The majority of Livingston has recovered well, however there are still homes scattered about that are unlivable.

Two years after the storm 54 families are still in FEMA trailers with little being done to help them recover. The work in this area will include home numerous rehabs and a new home.  Winter tourism and logging are the major industries that that provide employment to this region.
