Disaster Description

Hurricane Charley struck Wauchula with enough force to move the 5,000 seat stands at the high school stadium a few feet and cause damage to about 80 percent of the 4000 homes.  Hurricane's Frances and Jeanne also came close to Wauchula and caused a great deal of damage. According to FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency), about 95 percent of the town's 4000 home owners have applied for Federal assistance to repair or rebuild their homes.
