Responding Rebuilding Restoring

Julian, CA: 2003 Wildfire

Disaster Description

October 2003 Wildfires destroyed over 3,000 homes and took more than 20 lives. Though media reports over-emphasized the damage to wealthy homes, leaving out the story of lower-income survivors, there are many others left without the means to rebuild on their own. MDS is helping the most vulnerable: the elderly, the handicapped, the single parents, the unemployed, the underinsured... any who need help and are not covered by traditional means of recovery.
