August 13, 2004
Hurricane Charley gathered speed and power in the Gulf of Mexico and came ashore in Florida on August 13, 2004. The category four hurricane plowed a wide path across the state from Punta Gorda in the south, through Orlando, and into the Atlantic. The storm made landfall again in North Carolina.
