Youth Programs

 

MDS Summer Youth Program 2009 - June 7 to August 14

MDS has an exciting summer program for youth. The objective of the program is to provide an environment that will meet the needs of youth volunteers as they reflect the love of Christ by assisting others in rebuilding homes.

Where:

  • In the USA, Gulf Coast, rebuilding after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and now Gustav and Ike (Group size 25 max)
  • in the USA, clean-up and rebuilding in Southern California after fall 2007 wildfires. (Group size 16 max- 8 male/8 female)
  • In Winnipeg, Manitoba where youth will renovate ten rooms in the Red Road Lodge, a former hotel in the inner city that now provides safe, affordable housing for homeless or those on a fixed income (Group size 25 max) *Participants under age 16 will have limited construction opportunities due to Winnipeg City building regulations*.

When: 

  • June 15 to August 8, 2009 in the USA
  • July 5–31, 2009 in Winnipeg, Manitoba
  • Youth projects run in one week blocks (arrive Sunday evening, leave Friday evening or early Saturday morning)

Who: 

  •  Youth ages 15 or finished Grade 9
  • There must be one adult to every four youth, although we encourage a ratio of one adult to every three youth. At least half of the adults must have construction or building experience

Cost: 

  • Youth groups pay their own transportation to and from the project
  • Each person (youth and adults) pays a $50 registration fee

 

How to register:

  • Registrations must be received by January 16, 2009 to be eligible.
  • Groups will be informed by February 6, 2009 as to whether they have been accepted or not.
