Responding Rebuilding Restoring

Youth Programs

Summer Youth Project 2012

1-Rocky Mountain Camp, Colorado: MDS will be partnering with Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp to provide needed services of labor for clearing brush and trees away from buildings and homes in an effort to prevent damage from forest fires.  Some work, such as staining will also be done on the camp buildings.  Project will run from June 10-July 7.  (Maximum 20 participants)

2-Southern Ontario: The exact location and work are still to be confirmed but the project will be in a southern Ontario community and the work will likely involve assisting in community day camps for children and house repairs in the community.   Project will run from July 1-28.  (Maximum 15 participants)

3-Minot, North Dakota: Youth will repair homes that were damaged by flooding that occurred in June 2011.  Project will run from July 1-28.  (Maximum 20 participants)

Other information:

1-Group size at each location varies. Please see information under the project description.

2-All youth must be 15 or have completed Grade 9. No exceptions will be made.

3-One adult for every four youth is required. One adult for every three youth is strongly encouraged. At least half of accompanying adults must have construction or building experience.

4-Some churches have asked about intergenerational teams and we strongly encourage this model. What a wonderful way to get to know someone older or younger in your church.

5-Youth projects run in one week blocks. Groups arrive Sunday evening, and depart Friday evening or early Saturday morning.

6-Groups pay their own transportation to and from the project.

7-Each person, youth and adult, pays a $50 registration fee.
